Diogenes’ shelter provides safe and immediate emergency housing for up to 30 days to both male and female youth (primarily age 12 - 17 years) who have run away, been pushed out of their homes, sexually abused or otherwise maltreated, or who simply need time to "cool off" for a few days until family counseling can be arranged.
Six beds are provided in the 4-bedroom, 2-bath, full-service home which is located near the geographical center of Sacramento County. Supervision is provided by a trained cadre of adult staff who provide 24-hour supervision. All youth receive a comprehensive mental health assessment; individual and/or family counseling; assistance with school, medical, and legal issues; skill-building workshops; and recreational opportunities.
